Sharon Hwang and how she manages to deal with stress

From my life experiences I have developed a greater understanding for how to deal with stress. My life in many respects has been a non-traditional one. I suppose all of us have lived unique and stressful lives depending on your perspective and belief system.

For myself, I grew up in a small town in Colorado as a first generation Chinese American. I had a very happy childhood with few worries.

We lived in a house in the suburbs, always had food on the table, and lots of support around us.

When it was time to spread my wings, I went to the University of Colorado at Boulder and received my Bachelors Degree in Environmental Design.

How to deal with stress, ask Sharon.

After College I decided to join the Peace Corps service and got stationed in Taplejung, Nepal, a small country nestled between India and China (Tibet). This is when my life changed in a BIG way. For the first time in my life I experienced hardship and had to figure out how to deal with stress and excessive fatigue.

The experience is hard to describe. Imagine total isolation in a foreign land as a young 22 year old. While I didn't have an psychological issues (up until that point). I got depressed and felt completely lost and was having a mental breakdown. Everything that I knew anything about was gone. The type of food I liked, what clothes I liked to wear, who I liked hanging out with. All the things that gave me an identity in the United States were completely gone in Nepal.

So began a deep soul searching process. Where I learned to get comfortable with who Sharon was as a person. It sounds cheesy and cliche but I learned how to love myself. Which in all honesty is an on-going process.

My mental breakdown in the Peace Corps taught me to trust in my abilities, which in turn gave me the courage to start my own business. I knew that I wanted to do something that helped people. While traveling in India after my 2 year service in the Peace Corps I had a dream of owning a wellness center that offered services that helped people figure out how to deal with stress, excessive fatigue, and live better lives.

I came back home to Colorado and got a job working at a local Wellness Center and 3 years later, got the opportunity to buy The Wellness Center and my entrepreneurial career began. Also during that time I pursued a Masters in Counseling and Psychotherapy. But to date have only used my Masters skills on my staff and colleagues.

I have owned The Wellness Center, Inc for 8 years now. We offer Massage Therapy, Acupuncture, Naturopathic Medicine, Chiropractic Care and Nutritional Cleansing. My passion lies in business and helping people live better lives. In today's crazy busy world that we live in, I find it hard to live a life where one has found time on a weekly basis to integrate their health, work, contemplation time, family time, community and social time, and volunteer time is challenging. Just paying the bills sometimes feels daunting, this is where I need to learn how to deal with stress.

Each day we all get up and try to live to the best of our abilities and I am no different. I wanted to start this website to share my stories with others in the hope that it will help them live better lives, in turn help others. Until we ourselves find inner peace and balance we cannot fully help others achieve the same.

Here is to celebrating the quest of living a conscious, healthy, and balanced life. Remember in the end we are all the same. We are all humans on this Earth trying to find happiness and live the best lives we can. You are not alone.

All My Best,

Sharon Hwang
