Maintaining Normal Cortisol Levels

Normal cortisol levels, lower cortisol

How does one stay sane and maintain normal cortisol levels in this crazy busy world we live in? I believe it is about getting back to the basics.

1) Cultivate joy in your life every day

Do something every day that makes you laugh. Take time to do something decadent and healthy for you. here are a few suggestions of things you can do to cultivate more joy:eat dark chocolate and blueberries Click here to read more on 10 foods that super charge your brain. read funny quotes, take a nap, take a bath, play fun music and dance around (generally I am alone), sing really loud to the radio, call a friend or family member and tell them how much I love them.

2) Maintain a positive outlook on life

This is a tough one, because life can be challenging. We all struggle with failed relationships, going to a job we don't like, hanging out with friends that drain our energy, having family members that are non supportive, financial stress, emotional stress and many others. The key is to know that everyone is the same, we are all experiencing high and lows in our lives. Take time everyday to write down 5 things that you are grateful for each day. This will start you down the path of focusing on what is right in your life rather than what is wrong.

3) Human connection

We are all social creatures and we like companionship. Connecting with family and friends in a healthy, loving way is one of the best ways to nurture your soul. If you feel like you are isolated or don't have a lot of friends, take time to get out there and join a new class or sport that brings people together. A girlfriend of mine just joined a woman's roller derby league so she could connect with more women.

4) Movement and Exercise

Make space in your busy life from some down time to meditate, or connect with yourself. When we are constantly on the go, it is easy to make hasty decisions that end up being more expensive. Contemplative time is one of the most valuable things we can do to manage our stress levels and make better decisions for our life. Going to church on a weekly basis can also help you create that space for contemplative time, it can also be a great social outlet

Life is really quite simple we just make it complicated with all the noise and busyness that surrounds us. When you make a commitment to your health you will find that the rewards that you reap are priceless; more joy, fulfillment, energy, love and support. Financial health is also a key component to maintaining normal cortisol levels. (Click here to read more on how to create financial margin for you and your family).
